The guidelines youre about to read are meant to make our visitors search easier and to make sure they find what they are looking for. These guidelines can be changed whenever Klup.info guides feel a change would be profitable for our visitors.
  1. Klup.info internet portals.
    Porn, xxx, warez and money schemes aren't allowed. At this moment fan pages aren't allowed either.
  2. Name of the portal
    The name of your portal will be determined by Klup.info and can only have one word (e.g. football.klup.info).
    A specific portal on a very specialist theme can only be allowed when the broader theme already exists. (e.g. german-sheppard.klup.info can only be built if dogs.klup.info already exists).
  3. Name of the link.
    The link title should be informative and short.
    1. Capital letters are allowed at the beginning of the first word of each new sentence, with the exception of names of persons and orginazations which officially use these in their names.
    2. The use of unneccessary signs and symbols is not allowed.
    • Wrong *Welcome at AOL* right AOL.
    • Wrong *MUSEUM OF TOLERANCE* right Museum of Tolerance.
  4. Descriptions.
    The link description shows the visitor what to expect on the linked website. He should be able to choose what website he wants to visit from the descriptions on your portal. The description should be short and objective:
    1. It should inform the visitor what makes the site different from the other sites.
    2. It should not contain the title of the link.
    3. Only the first letter of the description should be a capitol letter.
    4. Avoid abbreviations unless they are known in that manner. Wrong *America on line* right AOL
    5. Avoid mentioning the name of the category in the description.
    6. Write in logical and correct sentences and use the propor grammar.
    7. Don't give your opinion in the descriptions, they should be objective. Wrong Fantastic site where you'll find anything on animals. right Extensive website with categories on birds, mammals and insects.
    8. Use the Klup.info symbols to express your opinion.
  5. Klup.info symbols (Ann)
    You can use the following symbols which are used on every Klup.info portal. The symbol is visible on the portal and in the link description.
    1. ! for excellent websites.
    2. $ for websites that require payment.
    3. & for websites belonging to Klup.info, friends or employer.
    4. * automated sign for new websites linked on your portal.
  6. Language
    For every linked website you'll have to let your visitor know in what language the website is written. If possible link to the website that uses your own language. The abbreviations of the language you should use are the following 'en' is English, 'de' is German, 'fr' is French, 'es' is Spanish 'nl' is Dutch.
  7. Names of the categories.
    1. Use your own language in naming the categories. For some category names it is appropriate to use a foreing language if the foreign name is an internationally accepted name or term.
    2. Try using the name or term the categorie is best known under. Wrong Electronic Commerce right E-Commerce.
    3. Do not use abbreviations, except when these are well known.
    4. Avoid using the name of your portal in the name of the category. E.g. when building a sports.klup.info portal Wrong Sports news right News.
    5. Don't use any general categories or categories that suggest a collection of general links. Try placing all links in the proper category.
    6. Don't use categories like 'Best links' or 'new links' or 'best friends' nor categories with guestbooks or any other category that is not related to the subject.
    7. Avoid symbols and abbreviations that substitute other words. Wrong News, backgrounds and more right News and backgrounds.
  8. Using years, months and days.
    All dates should be in the format yyyy-mm-dd. When an event occured in 1998, you can use 1998-00-00.
  9. Other fields
    Give information required in the user interface. Whenever you need to add extra information, use the field 'description' in the interface. Wrong Name: Monica Lewinski(Bill Clintons mistress) Description: She was an aid in the White House. right Name: Monica Lewinski Description: She was an aid in the White House and President Clintons mistress.
  10. Data integrity.The data you feed your user interface can be used on other Klup.info portals. That's why it is very important the information you feed your interface is correct. If you make a mistake this can have consequences for other Klup.info portals. E.g. If you built a portal on American Presidents and make the mistake to give Monica Lewinski the qualification M(ale) instead of F(emale) this link might also appear on the famous men portal.
  11. Polls
    De polls are entertaining and informing. The question and the possible answers should be short and to the point.
    1. If you have to provide a lot of information, it might be wiser to use it in the question. The answers can contain only a small number of letters.
    2. Don't ask for the obvious Wrong Will Al Gore be the next Democratic presidential candidate? right Who will be the next democratic candidate for the Presidential elections?
    3. Make sure the answers are complete and give your visitor an alternate choice. E.g. What browser do you use? Wrong Netscape - Internet Explorer. right Netscape - Internet explorer - another browser.
  12. Articles.
    Articles must be new on the Internet. They can offer an explanation on the subject, a bookreview or an opinion of the guide.
    1. Articles can't be sponsored by third parties. The article has to be approved by an experienced fellow guide before being published.
    2. Articles can't contain any improper language or violate any decency standards nor can they violate copy rights. All articles that do not comply will be refused.
    3. You can use photographs, pictures and HTML tags in your articles. You can't use other fonts or fontsizes than the default choice of Klup.info.
    4. Articles should be written in correct sentences and proper grammatical rules should be observed.
    5. You're allowed to place articles from others. The Klup.info guide is responsible for the article and should mention the name of the writer of the article.
    6. Establishing objective quality standards is very difficult, therefore Klup.info reserves the right to reject any article.
    7. Articles will be reviewed by experienced Klup guides, who will decide whether the article meets the quality standards.
  13. Frequently asked questions (FAQ).
    Goal of the FAQ is to help visitors to get an easy answer on frequently asked questions and to help the guide answering these questions without the need to send emails.
  14. Database with searchengine.
    This database is used to publish large amounts of information on the Internet and make this information available to our visitors. E.g. the database 'warpersons' on ww2.klup.info, which contains over 800 names and websites on people in WWII.
  15. Copy rights.
    The Klup guide is responsible for maintaining and respecting copy rights. Any violation of copy rights is exclusively a matter of the Klup guide and Klup.info can't be gheld responsible for violations. Violating copy rights can lead to exclusion of the guide.
